Day 35 Rhodes

Our ports are coming thick and fast now.  Today we sailed into the beautiful port of Rhodes.  This is an easy port that you can easily just do on your own and we spent our day around the old walled city.  We were off early and headed straight into the city and headed straight to the Grand Masters Palace. We were a little early so we stopped for a quick coffee until the gates opened...

Throughout the old town there is free wi fi in nearly every shop and cafe so our family and friends got a running commentary of our whole day on facebook....

We entered into the palace grounds and wandered around through each of the rooms.  Most richly decorated with wonderful mosaics on the ground.  Whilst walking around you tried to get a sense of how life was in those days.  Once out of there we walked to the Clock Tower which boasts the highest view of the tow. The cost to climb the tower was 5 Euros and they tempt you with free drink at the bar upstairs.

We climbed the steep narrow steps and Garry only hit his head once.  At the top there are only window but as you look out each one you get the grand  view.  Lo and behold we look down from our window to the rooftop bar were you get the free drinks from and we see Deb and Bob who toured with us yesterday with friends they were touring today.

That Climb up and down warranted that lovely beer that we all ordered and we used this time to up date our facebooks and try to catch up some of our family back home.

Once again we were off wandering the lovely cobbled streets until we found a spot for lunch. As you walk around the old city you are constantly hounded by restaurateurs all touting for your business.  We finally settle for one called Odyssey Restaurant, the owner, who like many people in Rhodes tell us they have family in Australia and in this case we might know them.

We chose to share a greek plate and salad between the 4 of us. This gave us a taste of Moussaka, stifado, tomato and capsicum gemistes and a bean dish.... They brought us enough bread to feed an army which was really hard to resist.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering up and down streets meandering in and out of shops ... a quick walk in the Aegean sea and then back on board .
