It was another beautiful sunrise over Mt Vesuvius as we sailed into Naples harbour.
This was our second today we planned to visit Capri on our own. We hit the ground running as the announcement was made that we had been cleared and we could leave the ship. We headed straight over to the Molo Beverello dock which was conveniently just behind our ship. We purchased our Jet boat tickets in just enough time to board. We were also able to purchase our tickets for our return trip which we thought would save us time once we got to Capri.
The jet boat took approx 40 minutes to get us to the Marina Grande. Here it is a hive of activity with all forms of transport ready to take you to any part of the island you want.. With full intentions of catching the bus to Anacapri first we no sooner got to the end of the pier and we were tempted into a four hour tour of the island in a bright red 1956 convertible taxi... Convertible you say... well all taxi’s in Capri are convertible, even if they were not originally built that way... I swear some looked like a modern Holden utes where the back was converted into comfortable seating for 4... Well I am sure it was the red that won us over, so pretty soon we were all piled in the back being driven round by Paolo with very big grins on our faces.
Roads are very windy and narrow in Capri and as beautiful our car was it was not made in a year where being slimline was a priority. But with Paolo’s expert driving we manage the whole day without a single scrape. Up an up he drove us occasionally stopping for a another beautiful scenic view of the island and it’s surrounds.
Our first stop were some ruins left behind by Tiberius, not so much for the ruins but the beautiful views they commanded.
